Call to Prayer
If we believe in a Sovereign God and we believe the Bible to be his infallible Word, politics are hard. The state of our country is hard. Romans 13:1 says “there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” Every group of God fearing believers have faced difficult governments. From Genesis through Revelation. The Israelites had Egypt, Babylon. The New Testament Jews had Rome, and much later Germany. We have republicans and democrats. Sometimes it seems impossible that God has “established” these leaders.
In 1 Timothy, Paul tells the church to offer petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving “for kings and all those in authority.” There is no disclaimer for whether we like the authority or not. So we shrug our shoulders, sigh and murmur “All we can do is pray”. Yet even after we acknowledge it, we don’t always do it.
This is a call to prayer. I’m inviting my friends, family, followers and readers to 31 days of prayer for America. I’ll be using a booklet called We Declare from prayershop.org I’ll be posting one line encouragement and prayer focus every day on my TonyaAnn, Writer Facebook page. It’s a spiritual battle, my friends, and our weapons are not carnal. They are however, “mighty. . . to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments”. Will you join me in this battle?
