We Declare!
For the last eighteen days, I have been calling my readers/followers to intercede for America. I have been posting brief prayer emphasis on my face book page at TonyaAnn, Writer from David Kubal’s book We Declare: 31 Days of Intercession for America. It is a call to declare the freedoms that God has already given us.
We began with three days of prayer over our first gift from God and our forefathers first recognized right: LIFE. Jesus gave us LIFE, one that would transcend the grave. Our founding fathers recognized LIFE as a right and our nation has reduced it to a political issue. We pray that our government leaders will honor human life and our culture would honor the sanctity of life.
We followed with three days of prayer for religious freedom. It is the first listed freedom in the Bill of Rights. We are grateful for the right to worship freely and pray that it is never revoked. Our rights are fully protected by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). However, lawsuits are consistently filed against religious organizations and businesses because of their religious expression. To date, the Supreme Court has upheld these rights. We should pray every day for those who control the interpretation of this law.
Days seven through ten declared our Constitutional freedoms. These stand with no regard for political bent or “sides of the aisle”.
Freedom of speech is a necessary freedom for all Americans. The attack currently launched in our country is not one of restricted speech, it is one of compelled speech. Many states are passing laws requiring citizens to speak in certain contexts. For example: On April 24, 2024, Colorado Governor Jared S. Polis signed into law, HB 24-1039. Sponsored by four women, the bill quietly worked its way through the system with few educators, parents or general public knowledge. This bill mandates that children grades K-12 require adults in their life affirm their preferred name/pronoun. Parents need not be notified, in fact, parents must also abide by this law. Refusal to do so OR mistakenly doing so may result in charges of discrimination. California law required pro-life pregnancy care centers to provide abortion information and everyone is aware of Colorado’s cakemaker who fought for years at great cost to say “No” to baking a cake.
In a recent Gallop poll, over 50% of Americans expressed little or no confidence in our media. When the farmers of the country declared freedom of the press they had no idea of the 24 hour news cycle. The majority of our reporters are agents of opinion and editorializing. We must pray to discern fact from opinion. We must pray for the bias of media to be exposed and restored to trustworthy reporting. America has freedom of the press but not impartial journalism.
Our judicial system was created in 1789 by the first congress. Surely these men could not have imagined the deterioration of the system we see today. Thankfully, there ARE men and women of integrity who judge without bias and seek truth.
Praying for our country can seem overwhelming with all the issues that are seemingly impossible. We serve the God of the impossible! Bolster your faith and trust in Him today by reading his Words and talking with Him.
