School Prayer
From the beginning America valued education. Thomas Jefferson was a vocal proponent of public education as was Benjamin Franklin, Horace Mann and many others. In 1787, Congress passed the Northwest Ordinance mandating public education. One of its authors, Nathan Dane wrote “schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged”. He could not have imagined the topics that invade that education today.
I spent 32 years in a public school, retiring six years ago. I was blessed to be in the Bible Belt, working mostly with Christians. I never had a boss who discouraged or disciplined me for my Godly view of education. I was always free to express my faith and convictions. When my mother died and I missed two weeks of school, I returned to a Kindergarten classroom where students asked if my “momma was in Heaven” and prayed openly over me. Still, I watched silently as ungodly themes wormed itself into the curriculum.
Where I currently live, pure academics are overshadowed by ungodly ideologies and social justice. Curriculum is filled with critical race theory, radical climate activism, spiritual relativism and sexuality. Parents have been banned from the process and even arrested for speaking out. Children are taught to hide what they hear and see in the classroom from their parents. Indeed, Colorado passed a law making it a crime of discrimination to discuss a child’s comment on sexuality and/or report said comment to a parent. God help us.
My heart is torn as I make the very hard decision to vote against public education in this election. It is equally convicted as I read Ezekiel 22:30, I looked for someone to stand up for me against all this, to repair the defenses of the city, to take a stand for me and stand in the gap to protect this land so I wouldn’t have to destroy it. I couldn’t find anyone. Not one.” My prayers for our education system are many, Thank God his mercy and grace are more! PRAY!
- That federal, state and local officials would honor the role of parents and work to support them, not circumvent or replace them
- That mothers and fathers will embrace their parental duties and rights. That they would be bold to speak out.
- That our students would be taught academics with biblical view and in ways that honor God
- Against the forces seeking to hypersexual our children
- For local school boards to rise up and govern according to the community standards
- Get Involved: Volunteer at your local school (without judgement) and attend school board meetings.
God forbid that he find no one to stand in the gap for our children.
