School is Starting Soon!
I ordered a book last year called Reclaim a Generation by Cheryl Sacks. It is a 21 day prayer guide for schools. It’s different from the prayer guides we see in graphic posts on face book. I kept thinking about it over the past few weeks. Every morning in prayer, it came to mind. As usual, it finally dawned on me, Maybe, God was speaking to me. Last night I went searching among my many bookshelves and found it. It’s August 1, I’ll start today. As I read the brief chapter, I felt the nudge to post about it. Now that I’m listening, I can hear the Spirit.
Day One Ezekiel 22:30 (Msg) I looked for someone to stand up for me against all this, to repair the defenses of the city, to take a stand for me and stand in the gap to protect this land so I wouldn’t have to destroy it. I couldn’t find anyone. Not one.”
Not what you were expecting, right? Me either. Sacks makes the point that we, parents and grandparents did not watch diligently and let the world control our schools and what they teach. I was especially convicted as a retired teacher. I even bragged that I never got politically involved until 2014, forty years after I stepped into a classroom. Today, I’m first asking forgiveness for failing to stand in the gap. I’m asking God to raise up spiritual watchmen to become the voice of truth in our public schools.
This has nothing to do with prayer in schools or teaching the ten commandments. It is not an agenda of the left or the right. It is surrender to HIS agenda. It’s a prayer for discernment and guidance. A commitment to “fervently pray, actively engage and become informed”. Who will join me?
